If you are still using the browser from 2001, you should, within a short period of time, not be able to view this website anymore. You will be redirected to a different website, with links on how to upgrade your Internet Explorer, or get a different one, such as Mozilla Firefox. Developer Console in Left 4 Dead

by on Feb.17, 2009, under Left 4 Dead

Did you enable the Developer Console in options, but it doesn’t show up with the “normal” console button? (button next to 1, but it’s not 2)

Go to your Left 4 Dead directory, and find the folder called “cfg”. If you downloaded it from Steam, it should be something like this:

Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\cfg

For Left 4 Dead 2 Demo:

Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2 demo\left4dead2\cfg

Left 4 Dead 2 Full game

Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\cfg

Create a new file, called autoexec.cfg. Add the following to it: bind “X” “toggleconsole”

X can be whatever button you want it to be. Just make sure it’s a key that’s not used for anything else. ;) F3 is an example.

While we’re at configs, you can also add binds to voice commands. Here’s a small list:

  • bind “Y” “vocalize PlayerWarnWitch”
  • bind “Z” “vocalize PlayerLaugh”
  • bind “A” “vocalize PlayerNo”
  • bind “B” “vocalize PlayerWarnTank”
  • bind “C” “vocalize PlayerDeath”

You can also see some binds specific for persons if you click config, and then click “click here to view configs already added“. They cannot be autoexec’ed, so you need to add binds for those aswell. Example:

  • bind “F6″ “exec francis.cfg”
  • bind “F7″ “exec bill.cfg”
  • bind “F8″ “exec louis.cfg”
  • bind “F9″ “exec zoey.cfg”

Tips and Tricks

by on Feb.14, 2009, under Left 4 Dead, Tips&Tricks

Some tips/tricks for playing in versus mode!

On the second part of the campaign No Mercy, you begin by jumping down. Do not hesitate with jumping down. Most likely a hunter will pounce you if you sit alone up there. And if you’re caught up there, it’s hard for the others to save you. The kind person writing this has killed about 10 people on that spot, and if you want to play the map, it is not recommended. ;)

If you find a molotov, save it. It is useful when you meet a tank, as the fire is damaging the tank every second. And if you meet a tank, stay away from tree logs lying around, cars, trucks, and other things the tank can punch at you. It’s instant incapacitation and a lot of points to the lucky tank ;)

Another thing that could work very well vs a tank is everyone standing together in a small space. The tank can only damage one person at a time, and when he’s started hitting Francis, it will continue hitting Francis until Francis is dead. So if everyone shoot the tank, it’ll die pretty quickly. But watch out for rocks. I believe rocks knock down more than one player at a time. ;)

Speaking of rocks, rocks can be shot in the air, before they hit someone. It’s not easy, but it can be done. Best weapon vs the rocks is of course running/hiding behind something. But you could always try ;)

On level 4, No Mercy, after the elevator. If you meet the tank there, you can do as in this video:

A good rule for yourself and your team to follow is this: never walk alone. Never camp on your own when you wait for ie. the elevator. You’ll most likely die a horrible death, screaming for help :D

[This will most likely be updated again later on, with more tips and tricks! Or a new post will be made.]

Left 4 Dead DLC

by on Feb.12, 2009, under Left 4 Dead, Updates

The Left 4 Dead Downloadable Content (L4D DLC) will be released this spring, to Xbox 360 and PC gamers free of charge!

The L4D DLC is dubbed L4D Survival Pack, because of the new game mode it is introducing. It also introduced two new campaigns for Versus mode, Death Toll and Dead Air. Those two maps have been playable in coop since the game came out, and should be well known for most of the players.

A Critic’s Choice Edition will hit the retail stores this spring, which includes all the stuff in the L4D: Survival Pack.

While you wait for the L4D: Survival Pack, enjoy this little video:
